비솝(b-soap)의 ‘souvenir’, 언어를 벗다. ‘souvenir: nude’

2008년 하반기에 발매되었던 비솝(b-soap)의 ‘souvenir’는 비솝 특유의 랩과 가사의 집약도 뿐 아니라 그 배경을 이루는 사운드 면에서도 주목할 만한 앨범이었다. 앨범의 메인 프로듀서인 Verbal Jint와 b-soap이 머리를 맞대고 발전시킨 다수의 곡들과 Lobotomy, JA, Krucifix Kricc, Yom 등의 참여 프로듀서들이 제공한 양질의 사운드는 비단 랩 트랙을 올리기 위한 ‘비트’로서의 가치를 넘어 그 자체로 감상의 여지가 충분한 음악을 들려주었다.

2008년 한 해 동안 가장 활발한 활동을 보인 창작집단 ‘오버클래스’의 사운드 미학의 총집이었던 ‘souvenir’, 비솝과 버벌진트는 본 앨범 활동의 마감 겸 그간 앨범을 즐거이 감상해 준 팬들에 대한 감사의 뜻을 담아 ‘souvenir: nude’ 앨범을 선보이기로 결정했다. ‘souvenir: nude’에서는 모태가 된 ‘souvenir’앨범에서 Intro와 연주곡을 제외한 17곡의 보컬 곡들이 연주곡 형태로 그 본연의 모습을 드러낸다. 수록곡들은 Inst. 앨범에 대한 꾸준히 애정을 보여준 힙합 Instrumental 애호가들의 기호에 부응하기 위해 원곡에서 보컬 트랙을 제외한 상태로 전곡 리마스터 작업을 새로 거쳤다.

앨범의 타이틀 곡으로는 Overclass 팬들을 위한 서비스 콜라보 ‘그런데 난 [Remix] ft. San E, Youngcook & Verbal Jint’가 수록된다. 비솝의 첫 앨범 [souvenir]과 관련된 일련의 활동과 정서적 흐름을 마감하는 의미로 작업된 이 Remix곡은 선행 디지털 싱글의 타이틀 곡이었던 ‘그런데 난’의 후일담을 그린 비솝의 에필로그 형식의 새로운 verse가 담겨 있다.

원더걸스의 ‘Anybody’ 싱글로 이름을 알린 JYP 최초의 솔로 랩퍼 ‘산이(San E)’, 적나라하고 성역 없는 표현들로 이목을 집중시켜 온 랩계의 마광수 혹은 홍상수 ‘영국(Youngcook)’이 참여해 원곡의 주제에 맞는 자신들의 이야기를 새롭게 담아냈다. 질과 양-두 마리 토끼를 잡는데 성공하며 2008년을 자신의 해로 만든 ‘킹 오브 플로우’(King of flow) ‘버벌진트(Verbal Jint)’가 특유의 세련된 인트로와 감미로운 코러스로 곡의 완성도를 한층 높여주었다.
